翠螺山 Cuìluóshān Green Snail Hill is 7 km south of Maanshan City, on the south bank of the Changjiang in Anhui Province. It faces the Yangtze and the 牛渚江 Niuzhu rivers has its name because it is shaped like a snail. On its summit is the 太白樓 Taibai Tower in memory of the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai (701-762). It was here, after one final drinking spree, Li Bai plunged into the Changjiang in an attempt to catch the moon. The terrace from which he leaped is called 捉月臺 Zhuoyuetai, Catching the Moon Terrace. Fishermen recovered his cap and clothes from the river and they are buried in a tomb on the hill.
